How is Jesus Unique?

1. In His birth – born of a virgin – Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:30-35.

2. In His Life – He never sinned, never failed God – John 8:46; John 8:29 – the apostles confirm this – Hebrews 4:15.

3. In His message – salvation is in Him; eternal life is in Him – John 3:16, John 3:36; John 5:39; John 14:6. John 11:25,26

4. In His authority – He receives worship as God, He forgives sin, He defeated death, He gives eternal life – John 9:35-39; John 20:28, Matthew 8:2; Luke 7:48; Mark 2:5,John 10:17,18; Matthew 28:18-20; John 11:25,26.

5. In His miracle power – dead are raised, deaf hear, blind eyes are opened, lame walk, food is multiplied, storms cease, diseases disappear, walks on water, turns water into wine, casts out demons, raises Himself from the dead.

6. In His claims – John 8:58 – He has always existed; John 8:12 – He is the light of the world; John 6:48 – He is the bread of life; John 4:9-14 – He is the living water; John 10:9,10 – He is the Door that opens to life; John 14:6 – He is the way, the truth, the life; no one comes to the Father except through Him; John 14:8,9 ; John 10:30-33 – He is God, one with the Father.

7. In His actions – He freely laid down His life on the cross as the sacrifice for our sin – John 10:11,17; Luke 22:19,22; – He defeated death by rising from the dead never to die again – John 10:17,18; John 20:26-29. – He ascended to heaven with all power and authority belonging to Him – Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:44-53; Acts 1:1-11.

The Gospel presents this great proposition: Jesus Christ claimed to be Lord and there are only two choices regarding Him:

1. He is Lord –if this true, then the Gospel message is the greatest basis of hope and faith that mankind could ever know and our response should be to receive Him as Lord and Savior.

2. He is a liar or a legendary myth – if this is true, then His message is the greatest sham and fraud that mankind could ever know and our response should be to refuse Him. It’s really black or white; there is no middle, neutral position to take with Jesus Christ. He doesn’t leave us with any other options. We come to Him on His terms or we don’t come at all. Receive Him or refuse Him. This is what the early disciples, eyewitnesses and preachers of the Gospel understood and they proclaimed Him as the only Lord.When you compare Jesus with all of the major world religions and philosophers, they all fall far short.

1. Hinduism – “We (gurus) all speak of the truth”.

2. (Islam) Mohammed – “the truth has been revealed to me”.

3. Buddha – “I point to the truth”.

4. Confucius – “I teach the truth”.

5. Jesus – “I am the truth”.

The apostolic, early preachers of the Gospel proclaimed that Jesus Christ is not only the truth, but He is the Lord. The emperor isn’t Lord; the goddess Diana isn’t lord, Isis isn’t Lord, Zeus isn’t Lord, all of the other gods and goddesses of the Roman pantheon are not the Lord, only Jesus Christ is Lord. The disciples and early eyewitness preachers of the Gospel believed that there was no greater cause to commit their lives to than to follow Jesus Christ – the Lord. As a direct result of their decision, a great number of these men and women died for their testimony of the resurrection and Lordship of Jesus Christ.
